The past year has presented extraordinary challenges.
Inheritance tax, the sudden closure of the SFI and the financial losses carried over from last year鈥檚 harvest have seen farmers鈥 confidence in their futures diminished.
Rather than focusing on these negatives, our aim during this period is to promote and celebrate the work that arable farmers do at harvest time to ensure that the crops in their fields become the food and drink on our tables.
Speaking at the start of this year鈥檚 Cereals event, NFU Combinable Crops Board Chair Jamie Burrows said: 鈥淏eing an arable farmer is such a fantastic job, particularly at this time of year when we get to jump in our combine harvesters to bring home the harvest.
鈥#YourHarvest is an opportunity to showcase what we do in producing the food, fuel and fibre that keeps the nation going as well as thanking you for your support and continuing to back British farming.鈥
Building a stronger future for combinable crops
We鈥檒l share behind-the-scenes insights into the harvest process, details that many members of the public rarely see, and showcase the expertise, dedication, and sheer perseverance required to grow and harvest viable crops under such testing conditions.
We will also highlight some of the key priorities within the Combinable Crops Board鈥檚 鈥楬arvesting Growth鈥 strategy.
The strategy, which is the first of its kind for the sector, launched in February 2025 and sets out the Board鈥檚 vision for a profitable, sustainable and globally competitive combinable crops industry, with a marketplace which has fairness and transparency at its core.
The Board has had the opportunity to discuss the strategy with Food Security Minister Daniel Zeichner and will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders within government to ensure that the priorities within the strategy are heard.
Continuing last year's work
The response to last year鈥檚 harvest celebration was incredible. Social media content reached more than seven million members of the public, helping to raise awareness of the crucial role that farmers play in delivering sustainable, environmentally responsible, and healthy food to the nation鈥檚 tables.
This year, we are going to continue to champion the voices and efforts of farmers and engage the public with the stories behind the food they enjoy every day. The Combinable Crops Board is determined to keep shining a light on their hard work, sharing authentic stories that connect the public to the origins of their daily meals and the broader agricultural landscape.
