National Grid has opened stage 1 of its consultation on the Weston Marsh to East Leicestershire project. »Ê¼Ò»ªÈËwants to hear from affected members before 31 July to feed into its response.

The project, which is part of The Great Grid Upgrade, would involve the construction of 60km of new 400kV overhead line and two new substations.

The pylons currently being considered would be traditional lattice pylons, approximately 50m in height and 350m apart. In addition, National Grid has proposed to recontour 55km of existing overhead line. Recontouring involves both the replacement of pylon fittings and replacing the wires strung between each pylon. Weston Marsh to East Leicestershire overhead line project is currently in the stage 1 consultation phase.

An can be viewed on National Grid’s website, which shows the project corridor being considered for the new section of overhead line and also the existing overhead line which would be upgraded as part of this project.

The timeline for the project is as follows:

  • June – August 2025: Stage 1 consultation
  • 2026: Stage 2 consultation
  • 2028: DCO application submission
  • 2028: DCO examination and recommendation
  • 2029: Secretary of State decision
  • 2029 – 2033: Construction

National Grid should have now been in touch with those affected and held a meeting with you to discuss this proposed scheme. You may have also attended a consultation event. If you have any concerns or issues about how the proposed scheme is going to affect your farm business, then you need to respond to this consultation.
