The three-day countryside extravaganza took place in mid-June during glorious weather as the NFU took up residence in our marquee at the centre of the action near the main ring.
Tom attended the Three Counties Showground near Malvern on the first day to address an audience keen to hear about the latest work in the upper echelons of political power the NFU undertakes on members鈥 behalf.
Much to discuss
He was introduced by NFU Herefordshire County Chair Martin Williams 鈥 the show is shared between three NFU counties, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, and Herefordshire, and it was Herefordshire鈥檚 turn to host this time.
The president then fielded questions from members, including queries on stock movement plans for the all-England bluetongue control zone, labour costs for seasonal workers, GM grain in imported ethanol and SFI reform.
There was also praise from the audience for the work taken on by the NFU during a very difficult time for farming.
A great event
Gloucestershire county adviser Hattie Severinsen-George said: 鈥淭he show was a great event, it was lovely to meet so many members on stand and discuss all things Gloucestershire.
鈥淚 was also fortunate enough to be part of the career fair at the Future Farming tent. This was an opportunity to speak to young farmers about careers in the farming industry and what resources the NFU has for them.鈥
County chair Charles Day said: 鈥淲ith a packed lineup of speakers, varied topics covering succession, agri tech and even a careers fair there was something for everyone to sit and listen to, with a lot of thought-provoking ideas being discussed.聽
鈥淚 hope this becomes a mainstay of the show as to keep a strong connection to agriculture is what makes the Three Counties Show what it is.鈥
