Melton Mowbray Senior Agent and Group Secretary Sarah Procter has been volunteering at Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust this summer on one of their many Countryside Education Days.
Pupils and teachers were bussed to Belvoir Cricket Club in Knipton,聽Leicestershire, where they were split into groups and rotated round a series of activities which, along with Sarah鈥檚 farming session, included archery, Kwik-Cricket and a birds of prey experience.
The children, predominantly from primary schools, were fully engaged in Sarah鈥檚 well thought out and fun run through of some key farming facts and interactive learning.
She taught them the difference between silage, haylage, straw and hay, with examples of each so the youngsters could see, feel and, in some brave cases, smell the difference between them, as well as learn about why they鈥檙e produced and what they鈥檙e used for.
Among the most popular features of the session was a chance for pupils to simulate milking a cow, with Sarah on-hand to offer top tips and facts about milk produced on British farms.聽
