Northumberland and North Durham County Adviser Jane Dungait bid farewell to the NFU last month after over eight years in the role.

A former rural surveyor, Jane was encouraged to apply for the County Adviser role by former Northumberland County Chair David Robson. Jane joined the NFU North East team as Northumberland County Adviser in January 2017.

Since then, Jane has seen big changes in the agricultural sector and has worked closely with Northumberland members to help them negotiate these changes. She has met many people in her role managing activity across the county and says her favourite memories of her NFU career are of working directly with members and the NFU North team.

Jane said: 鈥淚 have had great fun organising and helping to put on events such as a dinner dance, clay pigeon shoots, county meetings, health and safety events, MP meetings, trips down to Westminster and shows such as the Northumberland Show and the Great Yorkshire Show. The role is so varied, interesting and rewarding thanks to the brilliant people I鈥檝e had the opportunity to work with.鈥

In a final message to Northumberland members, Jane said: 鈥淧lease always report rural crime issues and I encourage tenant farmers to make use of the support available.
鈥淎lways remember that you (the farmer) are the most important asset on your farm so make sure you fit in those extra few minutes each day to check and check again that what you鈥檙e about to do is as safe as possible. Finally, keep lobbying your MP. Some things may not change but one thing is for certain, nothing will if we don鈥檛 speak up!鈥

It has been a privilege

Jane is now looking forward to spending more time with her family and supporting her parents and brother on farm and with their wedding business.

Jane added: 鈥淚 am so sad to be saying goodbye but hope to continue supporting the NFU wherever I can in the future.

鈥淚鈥檇 like to thank everyone for their support over the last eight and a half years; my county officeholders, group secretaries, the NFU North team, the NFU head office teams, and the biggest thank you of all is to our members. It has been a privilege to support you.鈥

Former County Adviser Charlotte Dring will rejoin the NFU North team as Northumberland County Adviser in late September.
