Delegates at the NFU Conference鈥檚 livestock session focused on how to maximise export opportunities for the sector in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

NFU Livestock Board chair Richard Findlay outlined the challenges the sector is currently experiencing and how external pressures from Brexit and the war in Ukraine are having a knock-on effect in terms of cost amid a challenging retail and out of home market for beef and lamb.

Despite these concerns, data presented by Steven Evans from AHDB found that 鈥渇armers have consistently been the most trusted part of the supply chain鈥 and that it was essential to continue to 鈥済et farming messages out to consumers to help justify price position in the marketplace鈥.

鈥淭he modern consumer doesn鈥檛 have one single thing they鈥檙e looking for 鈥 combining these points; good value, quality and taste, versatility and a growing interest in sustainability is key,鈥 he concluded.
