Sustainability and the environment

This section of the NFU integrated dairy-beef contract business guide considers sustainability and the environment such as expected audits, data sharing and agri-environment schemes. Keep reading for a full list of considerations.

  1. Will you be expected to carry out a GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions audit?
    1. Note: This can depend on the aligned retailer.
    2. If you are expected to measure your GHG emissions are you expected to use a particular carbon calculator?
    3. Who pays for the GHG emissions audit and/or advisor needed to complete the audit?
  2. What GHG data will you be expected to share with the integrator, and how will it be shared?
  3. Will you receive any advice/support/training to interpret the GHG audit results?
  4. Will you receive support with developing a management/action plan to tackle hotspots/potential improvement areas flagged by your GHG audit?
  5. Will you be expected to be a part of an agri-environment scheme, such as the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) or Countryside Stewardship (CS)?
