- Will you be expected to feed the calves a certain quality of feed?
- Are you expected to feed them a particular hard feed/concentrate/ration?
- Are you expected to feed them a particular forage and to any particular specification, for example done through silage analysis?
- Will the integrator expect the calves to have a minimum length of time at grass?
- What has been the calves’ average daily liveweight gain up until this point?
- Note: The minimum daily liveweight gain specification is often around 0.4kg/day up to 6 weeks and 0.7kg/day up to 6 months.
- What will be the minimum daily liveweight gain the integrator requires of the cattle to move through each stage of production e.g. from rearer to finisher, or from finisher to slaughter?
- How often is the producer expected to weigh the cattle?
- Does this need to be reported to the integrator each time?
- How does it need to be recorded?
- Since weaning, what have the calves been fed?
- What type of dam will the calves come from e.g., breed and/or system influence?
- What sire(s) will the calves come from?
- What is the breed and bull identification number of the sire(s)?
- Does the bull have any information on the ICBF Dairy-Beef Index, or does the sire(s) have an Estimated Breeding Value (EBV)?
- Will the calves have been DNA tested to prove their breed?
- If the calves do not meet the contracted minimum performance specification, how will they be managed from that point?
- Will there be a procedure in place with the integrator if you can no longer finish the calves as agreed due to external circumstances e.g. death, ill health, extreme weather, lack of feed or forage?
- Do you have the ability to terminate the arrangement early, and if so what payments will you receive in respect of the time the animals are on your holding?
- Will you incur any fees as a result of early termination e.g. do you have to pay for transport to the new destination, and if so what control do you have over those costs?
- Will the calves need to be raised in a particular system e.g. housed or with a set grazing period?
