bTB

This section of the NFU integrated dairy-beef contract business guide considers bovine TB, the status of the calves and rearing farm, contingency plans and cost of testing. Keep reading for a full list of considerations.

  1. What is the bTB status of the calves (TB1/TB4)?
  2. Will the calves have been raised near a recent breakdown/on a holding that fell within a radial testing zone or in dangerous contact with a bTB reactor?
  3. What was the bTB status of the rearing farm?
  4. What was the bTB status of the dairy farm the calves were sourced from?
  5. Will the calves have a record you can see of their last bTB test?
  6. Will there be a contingency plan should the cattle become restricted whilst on unit regarding moving to a bTB restricted holding, or will the producer be expected to accommodate until tested clear? Does the rearer/finisher have space for this?
    1. Note: You could check the IbTB website using the proposed departure holding number prior to transport.
  7. Who bears the cost of any pre- or post-movement bTB testing?
  8. Who will receive bTB compensation in the case of a reactor/inconclusive removal?
