LNRS (Local Nature Recovery Strategies) aim to deliver national environmental objectives at local and regional scales, through mapping and prioritising species and habitats to support nature's recovery. We may see future ELMs schemes prioritised to fit objectives identified in these strategies.
Linked to this is a primary function of highlighting opportunities to drive action from BNG (biodiversity net gain), where providers of BNG credits will receive an uplift in credits if the nature recovery is undertaken on land included as a priority in the LNRS.
LNRS are created at a county level, following engagement with different stakeholders.
Why is it important to engage with my LNRS?
LNRS set out ambitions for nature recovery for your local area. Farmland can be mapped for nature on a LNRS map, but it is up to the individual landowner to decide whether it鈥檚 mapped in the strategy.
This is especially important given the links between LNRS, planning and funding. Once the strategy is published, this map cannot be changed until the strategy is reviewed (three to ten years), so it鈥檚 important to review draft maps when they are being consulted on.听聽
