British sparkling wine beats Champagne to major award

A British sparkling wine has won Champion Sparkling Wine at the prestigious International Wine Awards, marking the first time a Champagne producer has not lifted the trophy.

The team at , including Head Viticulturist and NFU Horticulture and Potatoes Board Co-optee Ben Kantsler, took home two awards from the International Wine Challenge, winning Champion Sparkling Wine and Sparkling Winemaker of the Year.

Continuing a legacy of firsts 鈥 Head Winemaker Cherie Spriggs has won Sparkling Winemaker of the Year twice and she remains the only woman to have lifted the trophy 鈥 the Blanc de Blancs 2016 Magnum is the first non-Champagne wine to win in the Champion Sparkling Wine category.

World-renowned wines

The luxury sparking wine producer has 11 vineyards spanning three counties in the South of England. This equates to more than 800 acres of vineyards, which Ben oversees.

They produce award-winning world-renowned wines using the finest estate-grown fruit.

Huge achievement

England capable of producing 'world-class wines'

These awards bookend a successful year for the producer, securing top marks for their Nyetimber 1086 as Global sparkling and top scoring wine overall despite some fierce competition at London Wine Fair鈥檚 Battle of the Bubbles competition earlier this year.
