BBC Farmwatch: showcasing the best of East farming

More than 20 members across the East took to TV screens and radio airwaves to showcase farming and highlight key issues during BBC Farmwatch on Thursday 7 August.

More than 20 members across the East took to TV screens and radio airwaves to showcase farming and highlight key issues during BBC Farmwatch on Thursday 7 August.

The BBC focused on UK agriculture across its TV, radio and online channels in celebration of farming communities across England.

There was a mix of pre-recorded interviews undertaken in the days leading up to Farmwatch and live interviews on the day, with the coverage across television, radio and online news stories.

Issues covered included IHT, SFI, water security, farming opportunities for young people, harvest, farmer confidence and local issues, including the importance of farming to London and Norwich Livestock Market. There were also 鈥榙ay in the life of a farmer鈥 pieces.

BBC South East Today broadcast live from Kent member Robert Warnock鈥檚 farm, as well as interviewing Deputy President David Exwood, NFU East Sussex Chair Martin Hole and his daughter Romney, and NFU West Sussex Council Representative Caroline Harriott.

Hertfordshire member Will Dickinson spoke to BBC London about the impact of the dry weather on harvest and our calls for water security, while Cambridgeshire member Judith Jacobs was interviewed live on BBC Look East.

鈥淥ur members spoke brilliantly about some of the key challenges including inheritance tax, SFI, water security, farmer confidence, national food security and the need promote farming to the next generation.

鈥淚t was great to a see a wide range of farming sectors, ages and backgrounds represented on the day.

鈥淢embers also did a great job of highlighting the dedication and hard work that that is put in on farms across the region day in and day out to feed the nation and their passion for their work shone through.鈥澛
