Applying for wideload dispensations in the East region

07 July 2025

As part of your preparations for harvest, make sure you have obtained your annual dispensation for abnormal loads from the police.

These apply if you are moving machinery or vehicles over 2.9m wide, either over five miles or more and/or are moving on a road which has a speed limit of 40mph or less.

You are required to give notification to the police at least 48 hours before the journey. At busy times of the year, such as harvest, this is clearly a hindrance to farm operations and time consuming for the police, so many constabularies operate some form of dispensation scheme.

Registering for a dispensation means that the notification conditions are reduced or removed altogether.听

If you need to apply for a dispensation then the contact details are:

Copies of the dispensation should be kept in the vehicle when travelling.听
