NFU Sugar June Council update
The picture remains mixed in the sugar beet crop. While the vast majority of plants were sown in good time, dry weather has hampered both establishment and development in certain areas. The upshot is a variable crop nationally, with some immature plant populations at considerable risk from high aphid and increasingly high beet moth populations.
Negotiations for the price and terms of the 2026 sugar beet contract remain ongoing; an agreement is yet to be reached. Finally, NFU Sugar is delighted to welcome Stephen Swainston, new Managing Director of the British Beet Research Organisation, into the homegrown sugar beet industry. 听
