Mark Meadows

Mark Meadows

NFU Combinable Crops Board appointee, Midlands

Mark farms 250 hectares of owned land with a further 150 hectares of rented, share farmed & contracted land in partnership with his parents and wife Emily.

The family grow winter wheat and barley, oil seed rape, winter beans, spring wheat, barley and forage maize for a local dairy farmer in exchange for manure, to provide fertiliser and improve the soils. A further straw for muck deal is in place with another local dairy farmer.

The farm has been involved with countryside stewardship for many years improving the biodiversity and protecting water courses from diffuse pollution. Current Mid Tier agreement also provides wild bird food along with nectar & pollen mixtures.

An early adopter of renewable energy. The farm has roof-mounted solar on both residential & agricultural buildings and a biomass heating system.

Now diversifying into field-scale solar on lower grade soils and providing a biodiversity net gain of 138%.
